It’s all go here!..Well, it’s been another fun packed couple of weeks at Wimble Towers for Yours Truly and His Nibbs.
First up, I finally got to meet one of David’s great friends and man of many voices and guises ,Mr Drew Cameron,
BGT semi- finalist and would-be finalist (if he hadn’t gone and broken his leg!) internationally renowned impressionist and all-round nice guy, who also cares for injured and sick wildlife at his home in Brighton. We met for lunch at the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill on Sea, one of the most iconic Modernist buildings in Britain, promoting all kinds of art and culture related events..Ideal place for David to showcase his talents as a master mimic!
Having not had a facial for some time, I decided to head back to That Beauty Shop to indulge in a luxury facial with light chemical peel. Not as scary as it sounds, and being in the capable hands of Sadie and Linsey, I was treated to an hour of total relaxation and pampering, not to mention the shoulder and head massage that comes with it. Bliss…Can definitely recommend it, as my face felt fresh and clean and ready for the next onslaught of fake tan!.. What you make of aesthetic enhancements ?.. I’m all for a bit of nip and tuck myself, I’d have the lot done if I could afford it and I love hearing about the latest procedures on the market, though I still think the subject is slightly taboo and people still don’t like to admit they’ve had work done, not me, I love my Botox!…If Botox etc is a step too far for you, there is always the new Aldi Lacura Caviar Illumination Cream for £6.99 that’s reported to be as good as La Prairie moisturiser for an eye-watering £292!.. I know which one I’ll be buying, though with the hype surrounding it, it’s going to be rarer than hen’s teeth!
On Tuesday, we visited Bev Saunders at Edge Picture Framing in Hythe, when we commissioned a bespoke frame for a photo David took of me. Under her expert eye and guidance we chose a beautiful frame and border. We both breathed a sigh of relief when she gave us a very reasonable price. I can’t wait to go and collect it next week..Just need to figure out where we are going to hang it now??
With Gill having a week off, it was all hands to the pump. I really like delivering The Looker and this week I took over Gills route. Its great to get out and get to know all our customers. Though I have to confess the best bit is the stop off for breakfast at Brooks Tea Room in Hythe for the best bacon butties in town!
Sunday, was spent at Sotirio’s 103 with David’s daughter and Mum and Dad, Ann and John, and were celebrating Ann’s Birthday and their 57th Wedding Anniversary.. The place was heaving!..Looks like our food review featured in The Looker worked! Costas was thrilled, the whole room sang Happy Birthday and we all had a very lovely afternoon.
Even though David is a ex-councillor, he still gets inundated with people ringing him up for advice, especially for planning applications and many worried about these housing developments planned for our town and how it will affect everyone, so
last week we went to a full Council meeting to find out the latest goings on.. I know David is horrified that I don’t show more interest but I just can’t seem to get excited about politics in the way he does. However, I did get to meet the VERY charming Damien Collins MP at a job fair at Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone recently..so maybe all is not lost?
Yesterday , I was roped in to film the Cinque Ports Speakers Day Procession in Hythe with our good friend, Mayor of Hythe Michael Lyons. Blimey, talk about jack of all trades, being a Deputy Newspaper Editor I’m learning you have to turn your hand to anything,fast!..You can see my handy work on the website www.thelooker.co.uk
It’s been a hive of activity over at Looker HQ, what with taking on a new member of staff and helping Our David with designing the ‘new look’ for The Looker and website, which we are all really excited about. Dan starts soon and with his amazing IT skills his duties will include overseeing website development and making tea! The all new Looker will be launched 14th October. ..We’re now also on Instagram, so please follow us at thelookernewspaper.
Finally, David surprised me by taking me to dinner at the Playden Oast Inn in Rye..Oast House’s are such an familiar sight in Kent and East Sussex that it was my first time actually being in one..It was cosy and intimate and served the most amazing steak pie..We sipped our new favourite tipple ‘Primo Prosecco’ and tucked in!
We’ve got a few events I’m really looking to in the next few weeks, a wine tasting networking event in Medway, a tribute to Pink Floyd at Odo’s Barn in Bilsington and best of all, we’ve only gone and been invited to a Ballroom and Latin dance class at ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge Len Goodman’s Dance School in Dartford.. I’d better start coaching David on his heel leads!
Until next time
