Two dog owners have fallen foul of the laws that protect everyone’s enjoyment of Shepway’s public spaces.
The first was given an £80 fixed penalty for not clearing up after her dog when it fouled in Marine Parade, Folkestone.
The second had to pay the same penalty for taking his dog on a stretch of Sandgate beach that is dog-free from 1 May to 30 September.
Both were spotted by one of Shepway District Council’s wardens while she was on her regular patrols.
Cllr Stuart Peall, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said Shepway’s Dog Control Orders were designed to tackle irresponsible owners.
“We work hard to look after our district and we rely on our community to look after it too
We know dog fouling is the one of the things people hate most when they are out and about enjoying our towns, parks and open spaces. We will continue to crack down on irresponsible owners who spoil other people’s enjoyment of our district by simply walking away from their responsibilities.
“We also appreciate that not everyone wants to share beaches with dogs all year round. That’s why nine stretches of beach are dog-free in the summer. This still leaves plenty of other parts of our coastline for dogs and their owners to enjoy while staying on the right side of the law.”
