On Monday 8 May at 1.40p.m. the UK coastguard paged the Dungeness lifeboat to assist a 10 m MFV (motor fishing vessel) experiencing steering failure with two persons on board, one mile east of Dungeness.
Coxswain Stuart Adams, in command of the RNLI Shannon class lifeboat 13-02 ‘The Morrell’ and her volunteer crew assessed the situation and decided to escort the casualty to a safe haven in Dover Harbour. Once the casualty was safely berthed in Dover the RNLI lifeboat returned to Dungeness was re-carriaged, re-fuelled and made ready for service by 7.25pm.
Coxswain Adams said ‘even professional seafarers need our help sometimes’
