A Folkestone man has been sentenced to two years in prison after sexually assaulting a primary schoolgirl in a public incident.
Callum Maycock, 21, committed the offence near Foord Road, Folkestone, on June 27. He approached his victim, made inappropriate comments, and touched her inappropriately, prompting the young girl to flee.
Kent Police acted swiftly, and officers patrolling the area the next day identified Maycock, who matched the description provided by the victim. He was arrested just 24 hours after the offence.
Maycock later admitted to sexual assault and was charged. On November 15, Canterbury Crown Court sentenced him to two years in prison. In addition to the custodial sentence, Maycock was issued with a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a 10-year restraining order to safeguard the public.
Detective Sergeant David Hinwood, from Kent Police, commented:
“Protecting women and girls is an absolute priority for Kent Police, and we will relentlessly pursue anyone who poses them harm. The quick actions of police following this troubling incident saw the offender swiftly identified, arrested, and brought to justice.
“I would like to praise the victim and her family for their assistance during the investigation, and I hope the court orders imposed as part of this sentence protect the public in future.”
Kent Police reaffirm their commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and ensuring offenders face justice.
