Two of Shepway’s most popular open spaces have again been awarded the prestigious Green Flag

“Both are iconic landmarks in our district with beautifully maintained open spaces and excellent services,” said Cllr Jenny Hollingsbee, Shepway District Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities. “They are a vital part of the community, providing places for relaxation and peace, a chance to enjoy formal and informal gardens and – in the case of the Lower leas Coastal Park – a fun zone for children with the largest free playground in the South East.

“They also provide a great venue for outdoor events like the popular Venetian Fete in Hythe and the Green Flag award comes during the national Love Parks Week
when activities are taking place in both of our award winning parks.”

Green Flags are awarded by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy. They recognise the best parks and open spaces in Britain that are welcoming, clean, well maintained, safe, sustainable and involve the local community.Cllr Jenny Hollingsbee

And the two Shepway parks could be in line for even greater recognition.

“Following the parks’ success in the Green Flag awards, we are now hoping to win The People’s Choice Award. All Green Flag parks are eligible to take part and the winner will be chosen based on an online public vote. I would really encourage everyone who loves our parks to vote for them,” said Cllr Hollingsbee.
