In our recent UK-wide Rotary competitions for Young Artists and Young Writers, local school pupils won prizes up to regional level.  Encouraged by this, and the interest of teachers and parents, the four local Rotary Clubs (Folkestone, Folkestone Channel, Hythe and Romney Marsh) are keen to help occupy youngsters while the schools are closed and plan to hold purely local Young Artist and Young Writer competitions.

The competitions will be open to students in full time school education, and, for obvious reasons they will be computer based.  There will be three age groups (ages as at 29th February 2020) for each competition as follows:

  • Junior              7 to 10 years
  • Intermediate    11 to 13 years
  • Senior             14 to 17 years

We’re therefore asking young people and parents/guardians to register their interest in one or both of the competitions by e-mail to the following links:

Young Artist:  Brian Banks, Folkestone Channel Rotary Club begbanks@btinternet.com

Young Writer:  Gil Singfield, Romney Marsh Rotary Club, gilsingfield@btinternet.com

We’ll send specific details to those interested including the themes, rules and closing date (expected to be 29th May), and an entry form.  Prizes will be awarded to the winning nine entries.

Rotary will be using social media, local radio and press to spread the word.

Please help us by including details in your bulletins etc.  Many thanks.
