Last year Shepway Community Chest paid out nearly £70, 000, ranging from £100 for a new Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty sign at Postling to £5,567 to help towards the cost of replacing cladding at the HQ of New Romney Sea Cadets.

And now the chest is open to help even more community groups, churches, sports clubs, residents associations and charities.

Cllr Jenny Hollingsbee, Shepway District Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, encouraged groups to come forward.

“The fund has supported a range of projects in the past from helping Dymchurch and District Heritage Group pay for a 1914-18 exhibition, to Folkestone Rainbow Centre which used the money to help refurbish its family contact room. From the feedback we have had, the Community Chest funding makes a huge difference.”
