In a statement made today, Former Looker Editor David Wimble, he announced the setting up of a new Shepway Independent Party The Statement said: “I have been asked to start a New Shepway Independent Party?!

I have given it a lot of thought over the last 6 months, to miss out on the last election by so few votes was worse than losing by 800.

However with the County elections coming up next year and a possible Bi-Election in the offering in New Romney, (If Simmons does the decent thing and stands down) There has never been a better time to put things into motion.

Going forward I have told the people who asked me to stand again, as a party we would have a much bigger voice.

UKIP last time had a obvious novelty vote but all of their councillors bar 1 (Susie) has proven to be a bit of a waste of space., Locally many of them have either stood down or crossed the floor and become independent as they are disillusioned, with a party that claims they only have one policy… to leave Europe.
For the record I am not interested in National Policy, or for that matter what happens in Europe! I have my own views, but I think I want to concentrate, on the things that I can do to make a difference… represent the people of MY town and give them a voice in Shepway.

For years people have said that Shepway stops at the bottom of Sandgate Hill! Well we pay the same council tax as people in Folkestone and get a fraction of the service!

For far too long our council members have had to ‘Tow the Party Line’ and not the people who voted for them.

The idea of a party, is that we could then all have our own individual representatives, standing on several local issues, but all representing the towns and areas we are standing for.

I will start putting this into action, If I can get some other people who would like to do the same thing, as it would help build momentum. AGAIN this would not be about National Policy and ONLY Local issues (the ones that at a District Council you can do something about).

As you know I do have a track record of putting my money where my mouth is, I have set up and run a local radio station and a very popular Newspaper. I am realistic enough to know it may be a lot of hard work, but lets face it, if you want to maker change then that is what is needed.
If you think this is a good idea ‘Like’ or ‘Share’ this post. If you are not interested or just want to make rude comments then please feel free to just skip to the next post.”

David Formally stood on the District Council for 4 years up until the last election, He stood as an independent and narrowly missed out on a seat having being beaten by Peter Simmons.
He fell out of favour with the local Conservative party, after going against their parking strategy. Stating that it would destroy New Romney. When he was told by the party that the order of importance was party first, District second and then Ward third. He publicly stated that he was voted in by the ward and in his opinion the loyalty was to the local people.
