After nearly a year of planning the 2015 New Romney Country Fayre is almost upon us. This year, the largest free event on Romney Marsh comes of age, as it will be celebrating its 21st birthday!
It’s not too late to get involved in the Fayre, which will take place on Saturday 25th July on St Martin’s Field and Fairfield Road Recreation Ground. Although all 130 stalls have bFire-Engine-Paradeeedog display psdn taken, there are still opportunities to take part by participating in the parade. This will start from the Marsh Academy Lower Car Park at 10.15 am. If you wish to take part, please email info@newromneycountryfayre.co.uk, or alternatively turn up on the day by 9.30 am and speak to one of the parade marshals. Each year, the organising committee come up with a theme for the parade and this year’s is “key of the door” in celebration of the event’s 21st birthday. Any interpretation of this is welcome – the wackier the better! Trophies will be awarded in a variety of categories, including best large and small groups and best individual fancy dress.
Throughout the day there will be a varied programme of entertainment in two arenas. Alongside some of the traditional favourites, including X-Treme Falconry and the combined bands of New Romney and Folkestone Sea Cadets, there will also be a number of exciting new acts. These range from the Rockwood Dog Display Team to Clown Bluey and his Fire Engine to Big & Little Pony Power.
Programmes are on sale in various shops in New Romney, Littlestone and Dymchurch for just £1. As well as providing details of the arena schedules, they also offer a ticket into the Lucky Programme Prize Draw to win one of a range of exciting prizes, ranging from a child’s bike to hampers and tickets for days out and trips to local eateries.
Instead of bringing your car, why not let the train take the strain? New Romney Country Fayre has teamed up with the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway who will be running two Country Fayre Specials. One will depart from Hythe at 9.15 am and the other from Romney Sands from 9.30 am with special promotional fares. Both trains will arrive in New Romney in time for visitors to watch the parade.
