More than 70 players competed for the President’s Cups at Lydd Golf Club, one of the biggest turnouts for the annual event for many years.
The competition was played in ideal weather conditions which led to some great scores. The men’s section saw the best scores with several players in the red. And in a sign that the club’s recent promotional drive is proving very successful, the top three players were all new members.
Lance Grist was third with 39 points, just behind Jamie Bray on 40 points, while the winner with an excellent score of 42 points was Craig Down.
The veterans’ competition was very close, and the runner-up on countback with 38 points was Brian Heath, just pipped by Alan Read on 39 points. The leading lady was Jen Tollet.
Meanwhile the nearest pin prizes went to Jim Keleher on the 14th, Barry Thompson on the 10th and Trevor Brenchley on the 7th. Winner of the longest drive was Maurice Smith.
A Lydd Golf Club spokesman said: “It was a fantastic day with a huge turnout. A big thank you must go to the President Mike Little for all his hard work and generosity in making it such a special day in our club’s calendar.” For more information visit www.lyddgolfclub.co.uk
